Why it matters

Why This Matters for Kids

  • Money and measuring

Prices, sports times and measurements all use decimals, so kids meet them every day.

  • Linked to fractions

Seeing that 0.3 is 3/10 helps kids understand both decimals and fractions better.

  • Avoiding a classic mistake

Kids learn that 0.5 is greater than 0.25, even though 25 is bigger than 5.

A Peek Inside the Lesson

This is the real lesson text your child hears, read aloud by a friendly voice.

A decimal is another way to write a fraction with 10 or 100 on the bottom. 3/10 = 0.3.

Hundredths have two places after the point: 45/100 = 0.45.

Type a decimal with the point key: 0 . 7 for seven tenths.

Compare decimals place by place: 0.6 > 0.45 because 6 tenths beats 4 tenths.
