Why it matters

Why This Matters for Kids

  • Seeing the world

Shapes are everywhere, from road signs to windows. Naming them helps kids describe and notice the world around them.

  • Geometry foundations

Counting sides and corners is the start of the geometry kids learn in later grades, like area and angles.

  • Spatial skills

Working with shapes builds the spatial thinking that supports puzzles, building, drawing and even reading maps.

A Peek Inside the Lesson

This is the real lesson text your child hears, read aloud by a friendly voice.

Shapes are all around us! This is a triangle. It has 3 straight sides and 3 corners.

A square has 4 sides, and all 4 sides are the same length.

A rectangle has 4 sides too: 2 long sides and 2 short sides.

A circle is round. It has no straight sides and no corners at all!

A hexagon has 6 sides, just like the cells in a honeycomb. The yellow dots show the corners.
