Why it matters

Why This Matters for Kids

  • Making sense of data

Averages and ranges help kids understand sports stats, weather records and survey results.

  • Asking good questions

Knowing what makes a statistical question helps kids design their own surveys and science projects.

  • Thinking critically

Choosing between mean and median teaches kids that how data is summarized can change the story it tells.

A Peek Inside the Lesson

This is the real lesson text your child hears, read aloud by a friendly voice.

The mean is the average: add all the numbers, then divide by how many. Mean of 4, 6, 8 is 18 ÷ 3 = 6.

The median is the middle number when the data is in order. Median of 3, 5, 9 is 5.

The mode is the number that appears most often. Mode of 2, 4, 4, 7 is 4.

The range is the biggest number minus the smallest. Range of 3, 8, 12 is 12 − 3 = 9.
