Why it matters

Why This Matters for Kids

  • Smoother reading

Sight words make up a large share of the words in early books. Knowing them by heart helps kids read fluently.

  • Words you can't sound out

Many sight words don't follow phonics rules, so practice is the best way to learn them.

  • Writing sentences

Kids need sight words to write their own sentences, like "I like the dog."
