Why it matters

Why This Matters for Kids

  • Hearing vowel sounds

Short e and short i sound alike to many kids. Practicing both together sharpens listening, a key phonics skill.

  • Better spelling

Hearing the right vowel means kids write pin and pen correctly instead of guessing.

  • Building a word bank

Each new word they can sound out adds to the words they can read in books.
