The shapes of the land are called landforms.

A mountain is very high land. A valley is the low land between mountains.

An island is land with water all around it. A plain is wide, flat land.

A river flows to the sea. A lake is water with land all around it.

A desert gets very little rain. The Sahara in Africa is a huge hot desert.
