Why it matters

Why This Matters for Kids

  • Finish the tables

The 7s, 8s and 9s complete the times tables kids need for division, fractions and multi-digit math.

  • Break-apart thinking

    Splitting 7 × 8 into 5 × 8 + 2 × 8 teaches the distributive property, a big idea in later math.

  • Never stuck

With strategies, kids can always work out a fact they forget instead of guessing.

A Peek Inside the Lesson

This is the real lesson text your child hears, read aloud by a friendly voice.

9s trick: the tens digit is one less than the number, and the digits add to 9. 9 × 6 = 54, and 5 + 4 = 9!

8s are double the 4s. 4 × 7 = 28, so 8 × 7 = 56.

7s: break apart! 7 × 6 = 5 × 6 + 2 × 6 = 30 + 12 = 42.

Remember the tricky one: 7 × 8 = 56. Think 5, 6, 7, 8: 56 = 7 × 8!
